How To Know If You Have Prostate Problems

Men who are older and those with a family history of prostate cancer should see their doctor for regular screening. A simple PSA blood test can detect an over-inflated prostate. It can also tell you if you are at risk of developing cancer, or if other medical conditions may require treatment.

If your doctor suspects that you have a prostatic problem, he will want to learn about all of your symptoms and the length of time they have been occurring. You will be asked about any pain you feel when you urinate and if you have noticed any changes to your urine. A digital rectal (DRE) may be recommended, in which a finger is placed on your prostate with a lubricated glove from inside your rectum. This takes about 10-15 seconds.

Prostate problems symptoms

The prostate is a walnut-sized gland found in the lower urinary tract, in the front and back of the penis. It’s responsible for producing semen, which is used in the production of sperm. The most common prostate problem is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which occurs when the prostate enlarges and interferes with urine flow. Other symptoms include painful or difficult urination and a weak urine flow. Some men with BPH also experience a loss of bowel control, which is known as fecal incontinence. Not being able to urinate is a more severe symptom.

Medicine for Prostate Issues

There are many different medicines that can be used to help with prostate problems. They can be liquids or pills, or tablets or liquids in a suppository. The liquid then passes into the bladder via your penis. Saw palmetto comes in both liquid extract and herbal supplements. These medications may be used in combination or alone, depending upon your doctor’s recommendation.

Surgery for Prostate Problems

Surgery might be an effective option if lifestyle modifications and medicines fail to improve your symptoms. This could be done at your GP’s office or by a specialist urologist. Your doctor or specialist will discuss the pros and cons of each type surgery so that you can choose what is right for you. They will also explain other options, such as regular check-ups at your GP’s office or with a urologist in the hospital.

The good news about BPH is that it’s not a cancer sign. But that doesn’t make them go away. It is important to continue your regular visits with your GP as well as your PSA/DRE tests. These tests can help detect cancer or other serious conditions early. Early detection of the disease can save lives. This is especially true for prostate cancer. It is usually treatable when caught before it has advanced.
