How to Know if you have prostate problems
Men who are older or have a family history should visit their doctor regularly for a screening. A simple PSA blood test can detect an over-inflated prostate. It can also tell you if you are at risk of developing cancer, or if other medical conditions may require treatment.
If your doctor suspects that you have a prostatic problem, he will want to learn about all of your symptoms and the length of time they have been occurring. They will ask you about any pain or burning you have when you urinate, and whether you’ve noticed any changes in your urine. They may recommend that you undergo a digital rectal examination (DRE), which involves placing a lubricated and gloved finger on your prostate from within your rectum. This procedure takes approximately 10-15 seconds.
Prostate problems symptoms
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland found in the lower urinary tract, in the front and back of the penis. It’s responsible for producing semen, which is used in the production of sperm. BPH, or benign prostatic hyperplasia, is the most common problem with the prostate. This occurs when it enlarges to the point that it interferes in urine flow. Other symptoms include painful urination, a weak flow of urine, and hesitancy or stopping midstream. Fecal incontinence is another symptom of BPH. The prostate can cause a more serious symptom, such as not being able urinate. This is a medical crisis.
Medicine for Prostate Issues
Many different medicines can be used to treat prostate problems. They can come in the form or tablets or liquids, which are then put into a suppository. The liquid is passed into your bladder through the penis. Saw palmetto comes in both liquid extract and herbal supplements. These medications can be used alone or in combination with others, depending on your doctor’s advice.
Surgery for Prostate Problems
Surgery may be an option if lifestyle changes and medications do not improve your symptoms. This could be done at your GP’s office or by a specialist urologist. Your doctor will explain to you the pros and con of each surgery type so that you can decide which is best for your needs. They will also explain other options, such as regular check-ups at your GP’s office or with a urologist in the hospital.
The good news is that BPH, and most other prostate problems, aren’t a sign of cancer. But that doesn’t mean they can be ignored. It’s important to keep up with your regular visits to the GP, as well as having your PSA and DRE tests. These can be the best way of detecting cancer or other conditions before they become serious. If the disease is caught early, treatments can save lives. This is particularly true of prostate cancer, which is usually treatable if it’s caught before it becomes advanced.
