How to Know if you have prostate problems
Men who are older and those with a family history of prostate cancer should see their doctor for regular screening. A simple PSA blood test can detect an over-inflated prostate. It can also indicate whether there is a high risk of cancer or other medical problems which may require treatment.
If your doctor suspects that you have a prostatic problem, he will want to learn about all of your symptoms and the length of time they have been occurring. You will be asked about any pain you feel when you urinate and if you have noticed any changes to your urine. They may recommend a digital rectal exam (DRE), where a gloved and lubricated finger is placed on the prostate from inside your rectum. This takes about 10-15 seconds.
Prostate problems symptoms
The prostate, a walnut-sized organ, is located in the lower tract of the urinary system. It can be found on the front or back of penis. It’s responsible for producing semen, which is used in the production of sperm. The most common prostate problem is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which occurs when the prostate enlarges and interferes with urine flow. Other symptoms of BPH include painful urination. A weak flow of urine and hesitancy. Some men with BPH experience fecal (or bowel) incontinence. A more serious symptom of the prostate is not being able to urinate at all, which is a medical emergency.
Medicine for Prostate Problems
There are many different medicines that can be used to help with prostate problems. These can be pills or tablets, or they can be in the form of liquids that are put into a suppository. The liquid is passed into your bladder through the penis. Saw palmetto is a common medication. It can be purchased in liquid extract or as a herbal supplement. These medications may be used in combination or alone, depending upon your doctor’s recommendation.
Surgery for Prostate Problems
If lifestyle changes or medicines do not improve symptoms, surgery may be an alternative. This can be done by your GP or a urologist in a hospital. Your doctor or specialist will discuss the pros and cons of each type surgery so that you can choose what is right for you. They will also discuss any other options available, including regular checkups with a urologist or your GP.
The good news is that BPH, and most other prostate problems, aren’t a sign of cancer. But that doesn’t mean they can be ignored. You should continue to visit your GP regularly and have your PSA and DRE tested. These tests can be used to detect cancer or other conditions early on. If the disease is caught early, treatments can save lives. This is especially true of prostate carcinoma, which can be treated if caught before it progresses.
